How to access the router or firewall
Default Gateway:
Click http://192.168.1.1
If that does not bring up a login prompt you can try http://192.168.0.1
or please read below for a list of common default gateway IP Addresses.

1. Click Start go to All Programs, click Internet Explorer and a window will open up.
2. Type in http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press enter. Note, your router IP address may be different. See the chart below for possible IP's for Linksys router, Belkin router, Dlink router or Netgear routers..
3. A Router Login Prompt will appear. If you do not know your router password try using one from this list.
4. You're in! Unless the default user name and password from the list below did not work. In this case you more than likely changed your password and will need to hard reset the router.

Troubleshooting Wireless Router:
Maybe you have the wrong router IP Address? Try running an ipconfig to find out your routers default gateway.
Maybe Internet Explorer has spyware or a toolbar blocking you? Try bypassing it by using the Windows Run Command. On your keyboard press and hold the Windows Key and then the R key. This will open up a little run box. In there simply type your routers address. For example http://192.168.1.1 and press the OK button. This should open your default browser taking you directly to the routers login prompt.
Still failing? Try Windows Safemode with Networking. Reboot your computer and continuously press the F8 key until you get a boot options prompt.
Choose Safemode with networking and once you're booted up try the above options in Safe Mode.

Linksys Wireless Router Setup

This will work for most routers but I do have a Linksys Wireless Router Firewall in mind with these instructions on how to setup your Linksys Wireless Router network security.
Don't like reading? Want to see pictures? Try this link. Configure Security.
Click on Wireless link, and then select Basic Wireless Settings.
In this window, change the following options to configure your wireless security:
* Wireless Network mode: Mixed.
* Wireless Network Name (SSID): (enter a name here) This is the name you see when searching for Wireless networks. You can make it anything you want.
* Wireless Channel: Default is 6, I like to go higher to 11. Try different options to see which one gives your PC the strongest signal strength.
* Wireless SSID Broadcast: Enabled.
Save Settings
After you save those settings click on the Wireless Security link. Change the following options:
* Security mode: WPA Personal.
* WPA Algorithms: TKIP
* WPA Shared Key: (enter a pass phrase) This is your network password, knock yourself out. Just do not forget it!
Save Settings

Some say that the Linksys WRT54g is the best wireless router simply because it dominates the market for home wireless networks. It is easy to setup wireless security and the login access is simple enough for most to understand.

Hard Resetting the router

To hard reset the router you simply grab an item such as a paperclip, thumb tack or anything small like that and push it in the tiny reset button hole on the back of the router.
Hold it in for about 5 seconds and release. On some routers you need to hold it in for about 30 seconds.
The router will restore itself to factory defaults and you can try the IP address and user name password combination below.
